USDA Economic Research Service (ERS) economist Ricky Volpe will discuss the recent trends in retail food prices, including increased volatility and sustained inflation for meat prices. The outlook for 2013 will be highlighted, paying special attention to the impacts of the 2012 drought as well as current weather conditions and other factors such as energy prices and the international market.
Dr. Volpe is a research economist in the Food Markets Branch of the Food Economics Division, USDA ERS. His research focuses on the food retail sector, particularly the economic behavior and performance of supermarkets and other store formats.
