In October of 2010, the College of Menominee Nation and University of Wisconsin-Extension worked with a diverse network of partners to plan and host the Great Lakes Land Grant Institutions Tribal Water Resources Summit. The summit was held at the College of Menominee Nation and covered a variety of topics related to tribal water resource issues in the Great Lakes Region. Attendees included representatives from 1862 and 1994 land-grant universities, tribal environmental departments, and state and federal agencies. The first day of the event provided an overview of the role of water in tribal communities and the cultural importance of water to tribes. An overview of sources of support and funding for work related to tribal water resource issues was also provided. The second day involved working sessions where participants identified and prioritized regional tribal water resource issues and research, education, and extension strategies for addressing them. Funding for the event was provided by the North Central Regional Center for Rural Development and the Great Lakes Regional Water Program. This webinar will provide an overview of the summit, outcomes form the summit, and next steps related to those outcomes.
