Engaging Youth in Creating a Healthier Future for Themselves & Their Communities

“Engaging Youth in Creating a Healthier Future for Themselves & Their Communities”

Thursday, February 6, 2014 - 10:30am-12:00pm

The University of Missouri Extension Healthy Lifestyle Initiative works with communities across Missouri to develop healthy communities, including policies and environments that support access to healthy food and opportunities for physical activity. Youth engagement is essential to the success of community-wide health initiatives. This webinar will highlight examples of youth engagement within initiatives addressing obesity and sedentary lifestyles, creating positive environments, and impacting lifelong health:

· Photovoice Projects with K-12 Schools

· Youth-Led Community Forums

· Participatory Action Research with Youth

· Youth-Adult Partnerships

Youth and community practitioners will learn how these tools can be applied in local collaborations with 4-H, schools, food & farm groups, churches, public health agencies, local government, business leaders, and economic development & planning commissions.

 Presenters:

Zoe Broder, AmeriCorps VISTA, University of Missouri Extension Healthy Lifestyle Initiative
