The Media Relations SIG will host "Jargon, Clichés and Other Reader Unfriendlies" March 16 at 4 p.m.(EDT) via the Adobe Connect link below.
Keith Robinson, Purdue Agricultural Communication news unit coordinator, will discuss how to simplify your writing without "dumbing down." In most cases, this involves a simple recasting of phrases or eliminating words that might not be needed in the first place, he says.
Participants will learn how to translate the jargon-filled "languages" that researchers, professors and bureaucrats use, which creeps into our writing.
Prior to joining Purdue last May, Robinson was a reporter, editor and bureau manager for The Associated Press for 25 years. Robinson earned a Bachelor of Science in journalism from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
