Stewart Kaplan of the Thrift Savings Plan Training Office will provide an update on the current status of the 2016 National Defense Authorization Act (NDA) and the updated rules and regulations of the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP). The 90-minute session will provide an overview of using myPay, contributions, using the website calculator, tax-deferred versus Roth IRAs pros and cons, the value of the L Funds, and death benefits.

Stewart Kaplan, TSP Training and Liaison Specialist at Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board. Mr. Kaplan joined the staff of the Federal Retirement Thrift Mr. Kaplan joined the staff of the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board in April 2013. His duties as a member of the Office of Communications and Education staff include conducting in-depth classes at the FRTIB and remotely at Federal agencies, training the Participant Services Representatives agents at the TSP’s Thrift line Call Centers, conducting participant seminars and responding to correspondence from agencies and participants. Stewart is a US Air Force retiree. He holds a Master of International Management degree from Whitworth University and a Certificate in Financial Planning from Kaplan University. He retired from the Air Force in 2003 and worked for the Marine Corps in Japan as Transition Program Manager for two years before coming back to the Air Force as a civilian in 2005 when he was employed at the Pentagon for eight years as a Personal Financial Readiness Counselor and Educator. Stewart is an Accredited Financial Counselor and a Registered Financial Consultant. He also holds the Retirement Plans Associate designation through the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans of Wharton Business School.
