Improving Extension Accessibility

According to USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture, the hallmarks of the Extension are openness, accessibility, and service. As our country celebrates Disability Awareness Month in March, it is important for Extension to reflect on its accessibility to everyone, regardless of their functional limitations.

This webinar will provide an overview of disability and its impact on Extension and its services. Included will be discussion on:

* Defining disability

* The ADA and its implications for Extension

* Access to Extension facilities

* Employees with disabilities

* Serving those in the community with disabilities

* Examples of disability-related programs in Extension

* Additional resources


Paul Jones is manager of the National AgrAbility Project, a NIFA-sponsored outreach to agricultural workers with disabilities, and is also the former chair of the Indiana ADA Steering Committee.

Steve Swain is assistive technology specialist for the National AgrAbility Project and rural rehabilitation specialist for the Indiana AgrAbility Project.
