This 90-minute webinar is a collaboration between MFLN’s Family Development, Family Transitions, and Personal Finance teams for providers who work closely with Military Families around retirement . This collaborative effort will provide information, resources, and tools necessary to assist families in making a smooth transition from Military to Civilian life.This webinar will include information on:

-The upcoming Blended Retirement System
-Types of retirement savings plans
-Emotional and mental health perspective
-Retirement transitions - decision making for the future

Presenters

Sharon M. Danes, Ph.D- Professor in the Family Social Science Department at the University of Minnesota. She has authored over 160 referred research articles, book chapters, and outreach publications emphasizing the intersection of economic and social decision-making. Her Ph.D is in family economics from Iowa State University.

Barbara O’Neill, Ph.D- Financial Resource Management Specialist for Rutgers Cooperative Extension, has been a professor, financial educator, and author for 35 years. She has written over 1,500 consumer newspaper articles and over 125 articles for academic journals, conference proceedings, and other professional publications.

Kacy Mixon, PhD, LMFT-is the Project Director for the Family Development Team of the Military Families Learning Network. She is also an Assistant Professor in the Psychology, Counseling & Family Therapy
Dept. at Valdosta State University. As a licensed marriage and family therapist (AAMFT clinical fellow), Kacy has worked with families from all walks of life. Her trainings, presentations and courses, however, focus primarily on family violence, trauma, military families, and foster-care transitions.

CEUs and Certificate of Completion

Marriage and Family Therapists, Social Workers, Counselors, etc: We will be providing National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and Georgia Marriage and Family Therapy CE credits. More information on how to obtain CEUs can be found here.

AFC-credentialed participants can earn 1.5 CEUs. More information about this process is available here. This webinar is approved for 1.5 general CEUs for FinCert Certified Personal Finance Counselors (CPFC).
