MSU Extension’s Capacity Building Work Team in the Children and Youth Institute is excited to partner with Partners for Youth with Disabilities (PYD) based in Boston, MA for the following webinar, Expanding Access and Inclusion for Youth with Disabilities.
Creating an inclusive environment involves building and supporting a culture where youth of all abilities are valued and encouraged to fully participate. Attend this interactive training to learn the basics about disability inclusion, such as reviewing the definition of inclusion, understanding the Americans with Disabilities Act, learning and practicing inclusive communication, and discussing disability etiquette. This workshop utilizes activities to improve skills, knowledge and confidence around disability inclusion.
The webinar will take place on August 22, 2016 from 2 – 3:30 p.m. If you’re not able to make it on the webinar for this date, we will have the same webinar on August 23, 2016 from 2 – 3:30 p.m.
We will have Genelle Thomas from Partners for Youth with Disabilities facilitating this webinar. Genelle is the National Center Director for PYD. She is passionate about empowering organizations to become inclusive environments that support youth of all abilities to reach their full potential. She has over 18 years of experience in non-profit management, including at the executive and board levels. She has authored/co-authored, “Best Practices for Mentoring Youth with Disabilities,” “National Implications for Mentoring Youth with Disabilities,” and “Expanding Access and Inclusion for Youth with Disabilities: An Inclusion Guide for America’s Youth Programs.” She presents at regional and national conferences and facilitates the inclusion education and training of youth organizations nationwide.
She is the co-chair of the Leadership and Mentoring Task Force for the Global Partnership for Children with Disabilities. She holds a B.A. in psychology and M.A. in Educational Psychology from University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Graduate Certificate in Non-Profit Management from Harvard University. She has received several awards for professional and community leadership including “Women of Influence” (2011) and “40 Under 40” (2012) from the Jacksonville Business Journal (Florida).
