Optimize nitrogen fertilizer placement with FertiSaver-N

John Mann will host the webinar sponsored by The North Central Regional Center For Rural Development.

Kaustubh Bhalerao, associate professor in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, will discuss a new innovation he developed. Soil Diagnostics, Inc’s FertiSaver-N is a high throughput laboratory-based soil test that estimates the nitrogen supplying power of soil. Fertile soils are rich in nitrogen-containing organic matter and require less additional fertilizer. In the Midwest, corn farmers can apply as much as 50% less nitrogen without losing yields. The few agronomists who currently base their nitrogen recommendations on soil-N assessments can save their farmer clients as much as $35 per acre. The FertiSaver-N system, comprised of test hardware and web-based recommendation software, scales the lab test and provides the agronomist with a machine-learning based algorithm to increase their productivity and reach more customers in their service area. The US Corn market alone for this test is $140MM and the process can be adapted globally to other crops such as rice, sugarcane and wheat.
