Three Tools for Engaging Latino Youth Populations and Places
Changing demographics in the U.S. required county agents to develop skills and tools that allow them to engage with diverse audiences and respond to community needs. Drawing from examples in three California counties (Merced, Riverside and Santa Clara) in this workshop, participants will learn: (1) research-based key elements of successful Latino youth serving programs (Erbstein and Fabionar; 2014); (2) how to assess the landscape of Latino youth development organizations and places in their geographic area; (3) use decision making tools to identify and engage community partners. This process will provide extension educators with innovative approaches to leverage community expertise and act as facilitators who build and sustain the engagement of diverse youth in 4-H Youth Development Programs.
