One of the many indirect costs of opioid crisis is the impaired ability of parents to care for their children. In the most extreme circumstances, opioid use disorder can lead to children being removed from their homes and placed in foster care. Removal has been associated with many deleterious effects on children, including higher rates of juvenile delinquency and teen motherhood, mental and physical health problems, and higher rates of adult criminality. This webinar will explore the association between the rate of child removals and the opioid prescription rate. The presentation will feature findings from published analyses of Florida, California, and the U.S.
