Mobile First

We're happy to invite back Luke Wroblewski to talk with us about mobile web and mobile apps.

For years, most Web teams have designed for the desktop. Mobile, if it even happened, was a port off the desktop version, designed and built before anyone even considered the mobile experience. This made perfect sense for a while. Browsing the Web on mobile phones was painful; carriers controlled access to the Web on their devices; and mobile network speeds made everything often grind to a halt.

But things have changed so dramatically over the past few years that starting with the desktop may be an increasingly backwards way of thinking about a Web product. Designing for mobile first can not only open up new opportunities for growth, it can lead to a better overall user experience for a Web site or application.

In this presentation, Luke Wroblewski will dig into the three key reasons to consider mobile first: mobile is seeing explosive growth; mobile forces you to focus; and mobile extends your capabilities.

This was a great presentation; Luke obviously knows his material. It was very relevant for Extension education. I will recommend to colleagues. One thing - I will suggest that they break it up into smaller watching segments. There was a lot of great information, and I found myself thinking I should come back and re-watch later sections refreshed instead of trying to watch it all in one sitting.

VERY interesting presentation. Even on the web we're too focused on pushing our own information. (The college home page example is a classic!) Web or mobile, it has to be built first and foremost for users.

It had some good information - but various people noted admins should attend - it was probably too tech oriented - they just need the big picture -- which way to go with the resources available mobile web or stand-alone app? and good reason why? hopefully most now recognize that being present in the mobile arena is impt.

I think Jerry hit the nail on the head. This needs to be shared with more leaders and integrated into the strategic planning.

Great session. We need to share this with more leaders, and any state that is creating a strategic plan, etc.

Tried to attend, but audio cut in and out. Hopefully this will be fixed in the recording.

Never had to do it before, but I had to reinstall Adobe Connect. It was working fine until the featured speaker started. Worked out okay. I'll still watch the recording because the presentation is worth it!

I will be driving so I will miss the live event. Hope you have a good turn out. His presentation at NETC 2012 was very good and would be good for lots of folks-educators, administrators, IT and Communications staffs--to hear.
