A Whole System Approach to Increase Local Foods Consumption

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Wayne County NY has been using a whole system’s approach to agriculture and nutrition education for more than 5 years. Through a combination of advisory committee members, Cornell faculty and local extension staff, the whole community is engaged in bringing agriculture to life and increasing healthy eating at the same time. Three projects are the basis of this whole system’s approach: Harvest Month, Ag Literacy Week and Creating Healthy Places. How these various projects are integrated and how the various advisory committees are engaged for planning, implementation and evaluation of specific activities will be presented.
